June Sun Sign Profile: Cancer (June 21-July 21)

Poetic, loyal, deep, mysterious, empathetic, powerful, and maternal; this is the Water Sign, Cancer the Crab. At home in a sea of feelings, Cancers possess profound emotional capacity while still being able to handle life’s responsibilities. Ruled by the Moon, Cancer has deep connections to family, tribe, and country, but often find their true peace in the comfort of home, sweet home. Moody, overly sensitive, clingy, controlling and possessive; well, you get the good with the bad, and Cancers can definitely go off the deep end when emotionally out of kilter. But caring, nurturing Cancer can usually redeems herself through the power of her love and “momma bear” protectiveness for those she loves. Although Cancer sometimes prefers to avoid the limelight and concentrate on the home front, this Cardinal Sign can also shine in positions of leadership and great responsibility. Cancer’s creative talents are often formidable, and they frequently end up in artistic fields.  

My favorite Cancer image is that of the all powerful Lunar Goddess. The moon's waxing and waning have made it a symbol of time, change, life, death and repetitive cycles around the world. My favorite Moon Goddess is the Polynesian creator deity Hina. The women called wahines were her representatives on earth. Well, Cancer Wahines, grab your surfboards and catch a wave for the Mother Goddess!  

Cancer is a natural match with Water Signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces, as they share a similar emotional wiring and often share a psychic link. Wahines also get on well with Earth Signs Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, as they benefit from their steady and predictable energy. With Fire Signs Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius, Cancer may feel upstaged or taken advantage of at times. And with Air Signs Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, Crabs may end up feeling their emotions concerns are falling on deaf ears.

Born on July 14, 1960, actress Jane Lynch is a great example of a super-creative Cancer. This talented funny lady has more acting awards than she knows what to do with, all well deserved. My favorite Lynch character has to be Sue Sylvester, the quirky, aggressive cheerleading coach from Glee. A truly nurturing Cancer, she stood by the side of her marriage partner Lara Embry, through a grueling but successful child custody battle that set a precedent to have same-sex couples be awarded with the same rights as any other couple when it comes to adoptive parents

For all the Sun Signs: With the Sun and Venus (love and beauty) both in the sign of Cancer this month, emotion and relationships will take center stage in many of our lives during July. Lucky Jupiter (opportunity and growth) in Taurus blends nicely with Cancer energy, which could help all of us find practical ways to follow our hearts’ desires. The opposition between the Cancer Sun and Pluto (power and transformation) in Capricorn at the beginning of the month will push us further towards letting go of the past and embracing the future. The New Moon in Cancer on July 1 is a Solar Eclipse, and will pack quite a wallop, particularly if your birthday falls near that date. Look for dramatic events around that time.
